FMN is a leader in the development and deployment of Fibre To The Home (FTTH) technology. Through its pioneering work it has developed some of the most advanced systems and architectures based on WDM-PONs using tree and branch and ring and spur architectures, scalable spans of from 30-60-100km between the end user and the local exchange/central office, and scalable speeds from 100 Mbit/s, through 1 Gbit/s, and up to 10Gbit/s symmetrical per end user.  Our technology is all-optical with no optical-electrical conversion except at the end user locations.

FMN is committed to true ‘open access’ whereby a service, service provider and/or broadband speed can be selected by the end user in real time and at the ‘click of a mouse’. It is currently developing the capability to offer such features.

Our unique and revolutionary Metro Efficiency Box (MEB) takes wavelengths from end users and, using fractional wavelength switching, fills the wavelengths in the metro and core networks so as to maximise transport / utilisation efficiencies. The MEB can be integrated with OLTs in WDM-PONs.

FMN also has capabilities in the areas of optical line of sight transmission, and millimetric waveguide transmission, especially for access solutions.

Whilst FMN’s core activities relate to access networks we do have specialist knowledge and experience in other areas including long-haul optical transmission both landline and submarine cable systems, and in satellite technology.
